The competition regime in Venezuela is based on the Law to Promote and Protect the Exercise of Free Competition (“Ley para Promover y Proteger el Ejercicio de la Libre Competencia”), published in Official Gazette No. 34.880 in 1992. The enforcement authority is the Superintendency for the Promotion and Protection of Free Competition (“Superintendencia para la Promoción y Protección de la Libre Competencia”) (Pro-Competencia). The modern competition policy regime is considered to have begun operations around April 1992.
