The Competition Act No. 89 of 1998 was enacted in October 1998. The Competition Commission of South Africa (CCSA) was established in 1999. The CCSA operates as an independent authority under the Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition (DTIC). It is led by a Commissioner, appointed by the Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition. The Commission collaborates with the Competition Tribunal, which adjudicates competition cases, and the Competition Appeal Court, which handles appeals.
