The Philippine Competition Act was enacted on July 21, 2015. The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) was established in 2016 as an independent, quasi-judicial body mandated to enforce the Philippine Competition Act and implement national competition policy. The PCC has primary and original jurisdiction over all competition-related issues across all business sectors. The PCC is composed of a Chairperson and four Commissioners, all appointed by the President of the Philippines. The Chairperson holds the rank of a cabinet secretary, while the Commissioners hold the rank of undersecretary.
