The Commerce Act of New Zealand was enacted in April 1986. The Commerce Commission was established under the Commerce Act 1986 as New Zealand's primary competition, consumer, and economic regulatory agency. The Commerce Commission operates as an independent Crown entity. It is governed by a board comprising a Chairperson and Commissioners, who are appointed by the Governor-General on the recommendation of the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.
