Successful competition policy systems operate on a framework of strong institutions. On May 3, 2024, the Competition Law Center of the George Washington University Law School honored an extraordinary institution builder. We celebrated Donald Klawiter’s contributions, in numerous roles at the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice and in the Antitrust Law Section of the American Bar Association, to the development of institutions that support competition policy in the United States and abroad. The celebration of Don’s work began a series of CLC events that honored the leading institution builders of competition policy. The attention given to the heads of competition leaders often obscured the crucial contributions of officials whose public service proved essential to the competition policy system’s success. The Institutional Builder series sought to give due recognition to these officials.
