India’s competition framework is governed by the Competition Act, 2002, as amended by the Competition (Amendment) Acts of 2007 and 2023. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is the sole authority in charge of enforcement, merger control, and advocacy. Established in 2003, it functions as an independent body with investigatory and adjudicatory powers to prevent anti-competitive practices and promote fair market conditions.
