On April 3, 2025, the GW Competition Law Center (CLC) has officially launched the World Competition Database, a pioneering initiative that offers an unprecedented resource for legal practitioners across the globe.
Led by Professor William Kovacic, the Database has been meticulously developed over several years to serve as a comprehensive and user-friendly platform compiling key information about competition agencies and laws worldwide. Covering so far 56 jurisdictions across Africa, Asia, Europe, North, Central and South America, and Oceania, it provides insights into the institutional design, legal powers, decision-making processes, and other fundamental aspects of the competition authority of each of those countries.
The World Competition Database is a truly innovative project, setting a new standard for accessibility and transparency in competition law research. Designed for both practitioners and the general public, it facilitates comparative analysis and fosters a deeper understanding of competition systems across the world. As a living project, it will continue to expand, incorporating new jurisdictions and evolving alongside the global competition landscape.
The official launch took place during the fourth edition of the Annual Forum of Competition Law in Developing Countries – Latin America, hosted at GW Law on April 3, 2025. The CLC welcomes feedback and contributions from competition agencies and practitioners worldwide to ensure the accuracy and completeness of this valuable resource.
