The French competition law framework is set out in the Commercial Code (Code de commerce), primarily in Book IV on competition. The Autorité de la concurrence (Adlc) was created in 2009 by Ordinance No. 2008-1161, which reformed and modernised the previous system. The Adlc is an independent administrative authority responsible for enforcing antitrust rules and merger control. It operates within the institutional framework of the Ministry for the Economy and Finance and is governed by a President and several Members appointed for fixed terms.
