Competition law in Colombia was established with Law No. 155 of 1959, and later strengthened by Decree No. 2153 of 1992. The national competition authority is the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC), which has been responsible for enforcing competition rules since 1992. The SIC is led by a Superintendent, appointed by the President of Colombia. It operates independently in its decisions but is part of the executive branch under the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism.
