Dr. Liat Ariella Davis was awarded her doctorate without corrections in July 2024 at King’s College London (KCL). Liat’s thesis entitled When Legislation Contains Multiple Goals, a Coherent Adjudicative Model is Essential: A Case Study of South Africa’s Competition Law explores the intricate role of adjudication in navigating legislation with seemingly conflicting objectives, focusing particularly on the South African Competition Act as a case study. Liat's examiners, Professors Eleanor Fox and Dina Waked, passed her without any corrections, praising her thesis as an important and distinctive contribution of exceptionally high intellectual quality, addressing a subject of great conceptual and practical interest. Liat is currently a postdoctoral visiting research scholar at the Competition Law Center (CLC) at the George Washington University Law School under the guidance of Professor William Kovacic for the 2024-2025 academic year. Liat has a master’s degree in EU Competition law from KCL, and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Bachelor of Social Science degrees from the University of Cape Town. Liat completed her legal training working as a candidate attorney in South Africa prior to her MA and has been a researcher at various NGOs over the years. Liat was a co-founder of the Social Justice Coalition, a South African Human Rights NGO, and was the National Chairperson for Students for Law and Social Justice.
